Shawn McDonald, a native of San Diego, has been a licensed esthetician and skincare expert in the State of California since 1986. Shawn has cared for others through touch for nearly four decades. 

In the early 90s, Shawn worked with a team of elite plastic surgeons at Aesthetica Surgical Center in Los Angeles. She received her training in dermaplaning and The MicroPeel from its cofounder, Christina Carlino of Biomedic. Shawn performed dermaplaning and chemical peels on some of Hollywood's most famous faces while working for the original “Doc Hollywood,” Dr. John Williams. Williams’ practice was the first to offer dermaplaning when it was exclusively performed in plastic surgery offices. Shawn continued to work alongside some of the most renowned plastic surgeons in private practice, from La Jolla to Marina del Rey to Beverly Hills. Shawn has also worked as an educator for a medical skincare company teaching skin theory, peel application and the art of dermaplaning. Prior to opening The Skin Den, Shawn spent ten years working directly for one of the premier dermatologists in California’s Carmel Valley
